The Georgia Radio Reading Service (GaRRS)’ new show, Out & About, hosted by volunteer Jody Franco, recently visited the $250M Musical Instrument Museum and the George C. Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, California to bring audio described tours from outside Georgia for the first time in GaRRS’ 30 year history.
GaRRS, Georgia’s only 24 hour, human voiced , “closed circuit” radio broadcast reading service for the Blind, Visually Impaired and Print Disabled, developed the show in order to encourage participation of the vision loss community in activities outside the home. Out and About has audio described many interesting sites around Georgia including the Georgia Aquarium, Turner Field, Harriet Tubman Museum in Macon, the Federal Reserve, and Oakland Cemetery. The show also helps the sighted community better understand the prevalence of vision loss as well as the need for improved community access for people with vision loss.
To hear Out & About, tune into GaRRS on the first Tuesday of each month at 9:00 p.m. (Note that listeners require a radio receiver or password-protected Internet access provided only by GaRRS). For more information about GaRRS, please call 1-800-672-6173 or visit their website at www.garrs.net.
